The brook trout is actually a native of North Carolina and surrounding states, but brook trout are found in other parts of the country as well. Brook trout live mainly in the cold waters that are found high in the mountains so they are sometimes found up north as well.
The brook trout can be easily be recognized by its bright color and its lower fins that are black and white. Today it is very rare to catch a brook trout over 12 inches in length because most of them average about 8 inches or under.
