Trout fishing is a challenging and interesting hobby or sport for many people. To be a good trout fisherman requires knowledge and patience. The more you know, the more successful you will be in your efforts of trout fishing. There are many different types of trout and when it comes to trout fishing, the more you know about the species you are fishing, the bigger advantage you will have.

Brook trout, also known as the speckled trout, are one popular type of trout that can be found in many parts of the world. Brook trout are often sought after by game fishers. The brook trout is actually a native of North Carolina and surrounding states, but brook trout are found in other parts of the country as well. Brook trout live mainly in the cold waters that are found high in the mountains so they are sometimes found up north as well.

The brook trout can be easily be recognized by its bright color and its lower fins that are black and white. Today it is very rare to catch a brook trout over 12 inches in length because most of them average about 8 inches or under.

You need to learn more about brook trout fishing to be successful. Here are some brook trout fishing tips and information:

1. You can typically catch bigger brook trout later at night.

2. Bigger fish need bigger structures. Look for brook trout near depressions, sandbars, oyster beds, etc.

3. Big brook trout can often be found underneath docks, bridges, docked boats and fallen trees.

4. Try to spot brook trout before they see you. If brook trout see you, you will scare them off.

5. It is easier to catch brook trout while wading. A boat will scare brook trout off.

6. For catching bigger brook trout, you need bigger bait.

7. When using live bait for large brook trout, consider shrimp as they stay alive longer on the hook.

Remember basic fishing techniques as well and learn to tie proper knots in your line and hooks. Learn how to choose the right bait and the right rod and reel or fly rod. Learn how to choose the best time to do your fishing and even where to do your fishing. If you are fishing in a regulated zone, you must be sure you are familiar with the regulations and that you are following them properly.
