Fishing for trout is a challenging and interesting hobby or sport for many. To be a good at trout fishing requires knowledge about the species of fish and patience. The more you know about the species of fish you are fishing for, the more successful you will be in your efforts of trout fishing. There are many different types of trout and when it comes to trout fishing, the more you know about the type of trout you are fishing, the better you will be at fishing for them.

Speckled trout, also known as brook trout, are one of the most popular type of trout that can be found in many parts of the world. Speckled trout are often sought after by game fishers. The speckled trout is actually a native of North Carolina and surrounding states. Speckled trout are also found in other parts of the country. Speckled trout live mainly in the cold waters that are found high in the mountains so speckled trout are sometimes found up north as well.

Speckled trout are easily recognized by their bright color and lower fins that are black and white. Today it is very rare to catch a speckled trout over 12 inches in length. Most speckled trout average about 8 inches or under.

You need to learn more about fishing speckled fish to be successful. Here are some speckled trout fishing tips and information:

1. You can typically catch bigger speckled trout later at night.

2. Bigger fish need bigger structures. Look for speckled trout near depressions, sandbars, oyster beds, etc.

3. Bigger speckled trout can often be found underneath docks and bridges. Also look around docked boats and fallen trees.

4. Try to spot speckled trout before they see you or you will scare them off.

5. It is easier to catch speckled trout while wading as a boat will likely scare them off.

6. For catching bigger speckled trout, you need larger bait.

7. When using live bait for large speckled trout, consider using shrimp as shrimp stay alive longer on the hook.

Remember basic fishing techniques as well and learn to tie proper knots in your line and hooks. Learn how to choose the right bait and the right rod and reel or fly rod. Learn how to choose the best time to do your fishing and even where to do your fishing. If you are fishing in a regulated zone, you must be sure you are familiar with the regulations and that you are following them properly.
