The rainbow trout will put up a fight and tend to do a lot of jumping around when hooked.

Brown Trout

The brown trout is a native of Northern Europe and was brought to North Carolina in the early 1900s. Brown trout can be distinguished by a brownish-yellow color. Brown trout also have black, red and orange spots scattered around on their sides. The brown trout averages about 12 inches in length, but people have reported catching brown trout that was over 18 inches. The brown trout are known to put up a fight just like the rainbow trout but in a different way. Brown trout tend to swim to the bottom of the water and try to hide under rocks and logs. Brown trout prefer streams that are full of minnows and have a slow moving flow to them.
