Bass Fishing
from: Rob LoreBass is America's most popular largemouth fish. Bass are defined as the North American fish called black bass. The black bass includes three categories of fish including largemouth bass referred to as micropterus salmoides, smallmouth bass called micropterus dololomieui, and Kentucky bass called micrpterus punctatus. Bass are part of the sunfish family.
Black bass is the second most sought after game fish in the United States. Bass fishing can be done from a boat or the shore. Professionals can also do bass fishing for recreational purposes for bass fishing tournaments.
Black bass are known as strong fighters and are seen as a real challenge to catch. To most who practice the sport recreationally, once they catch their first bass they will come back for more. Black bass can be found in most lakes, reservoirs, ponds, rivers, streams, creeks and roadside ditches.
Largemouth bass are known for their overall size and resistance when being hooked. Smallmouth bass usually jump up and fight more aggressively on the surface when being hooked.
What works best to catch bass? Bait usually solves that problem, but during different times of the day, you should use different types of bait. For example, in the morning hours, buzzbaits and spinnerbaits can be used. The result should be fish swirling around the bait. If there is no success, then use plastic worms when casting to the same location.
Crankbaits and spinnerbaits will attract the bass from the deep water in the midday sun. However, in the afternoon the best bait to use is worms, lizards, crawfish, frogs, fish and grubs to catch bass.
Bass Fishing has become a popular sport in the United States. The two major competitions for bass fishing are known as the Bass Master Tournament Trial, which includes 12 events for which 50 anglers compete for the grand prize of $500,000. The second competition is called Wal-Mart FLW Tour where the grand prize is $1,000,000.
Even though bass fishing is a popular sport and what is caught for recreational purposes is usually cooked and served at the dinner table, a lot of fisherman are practicing the "catch and release" method today.
