Fishing Equipment And Gear
from: Rob LoreWhen fishing equipment is one of the most important aspects of your type of fishing, it is not a good idea to scrimp on your fishing equipment and gear. After all, your fishing equipment and gear is what lures your fish to bite and enables you to reel them in. Cheap fishing equipment and gear may be fine for an afternoon at the river but when you are looking for lunch or that trophy fish, you will want to have better quality fishing equipment than cheap fishing equipment.
There are a number different styles of of fishing rods and reels. All fish are not the same, and the water conditions are certainly different from one type of fishing to another. Rods, reels and fishing lines are all rated and are geared for specific fish. You would not be able to reel in a 200 pound Marlin with a supermarket $20 special on fishing line. If you try, it might be a dangerous feat for the rest of the patrons on your fishing expedition.
Choosing your fishing equipment and gear depends mainly on two things, your budget and the type of fish. The rod and reel will most likely be the most expensive fishing equipment that you purchase. Of course that's not counting the boat. The rod and reel will have instructional guidelines that will explain the rated test curve, meaning how much weight they can withstand. If the rod is not heavy enough or supported for a larger fish, you are liable to hurt yourself. Make sure that you are using the appropriate rod for the appropriate fish.
Knowing the difference between the different types of fishing will also assist when purchasing your fishing equipment and gear. You would not want to purchase fly fishing equipment unless you are planning to fly fish. With fly fishing equipment the "bait" or "artificial fly" is meant to sit on top or just below the surface of the water, and you need to purchase appropriate fly fishing equipment.
The best way to prepare for fishing equipment is do a little research and speak to experienced fishermen. There are a variety of sources for information on equipment fishing and gear. There are CDs, DVDs and books that are available for purchase. These may cost you a few dollars, but the information and advice can save you hours of time. Sometimes learning on your own can cost you hundreds of dollars and many uneventful fishing hours.
