Salt Water Fishing Equipment

from: Rob Lore

Most types of fishing require nothing more than a simple rod and reel, bait and a place where there are fish. There are, however, several different methods of fishing. Saltwater fishing is a unique experience that has its own feel and style. Saltwater fishing is not as popular as freshwater fishing, but saltwater fishing is a very fun and exciting way to fish.

Saltwater fishing equipment is fundamentally the same as freshwater fishing equipment, except that saltwater fishing equipment is usually made to be stronger and more durable. Saltwater fishing equipment must be able to handle fish that weigh a whole lot more than freshwater fish. Also, saltwater fishing equipment must be able to withstand the effects of the salt within the water.

When shopping for or renting saltwater fishing equipment, one must have an idea for what type of fish he or she is fishing for. The type of saltwater fishing equipment used will be more effective if it is designed for the fish you're fishing for.

Reels made for saltwater fishing are usually open faced and not closed. However, the type of open reels used is a bit different from the types used in freshwater fishing. Saltwater fishing reels are usually made of tough, durable metals that are treated to withstand rust and other ailments. Also, saltwater fishing reels durability ensures that when you hook that blue marlin, your saltwater fishing reels will not shatter into a thousand pieces.

Not only are the saltwater fishing reels more durable, so are the saltwater fishing rods used. Reinforced composite materials are used to create saltwater fishing rods capable of maintaining structural integrity when reeling in a 50 plus pound fish. Since the fish in the sea are bigger, the test of the saltwater fishing line used has to be stronger. Saltwater fishing requires line tests of a hundred pounds or more. Saltwater fishing line tests of a hundred pounds or more is essential to catching almost anything in the sea.

Salt water fishing equipment must be bigger and all around more durable than any other type of fishing equipment even down to the saltwater fishing hooks. Salt water fishing hooks used to catch large saltwater fish are about ten times the size of freshwater fishing hooks. Saltwater fishing hooks have to be bigger to get a good grip on the fish and to be able to withstand a ferocious fight. Usually, saltwater fishing hooks are made of a stronger metal compound than freshwater fishing hooks. Saltwater fishing hooks are usually baited with minnows or other small fish to lure the fish to bite.

Salt water fishing is fun and exciting with the appropriate salt water fishing equipment. Saltwater fishing can become a memory cherished for years to come.
