Fiberglass Versus Aluminum Bass Fishing Boats

from: Rob Lore

Many bass fishing boat dealers feel that aluminum bass fishing boats have become much more competitive in performance, as well as hull and internal design. New heavier gauge aluminum is used in many of today's bass fishing boats which allows the bass fishing boats to be made larger. Larger bass fishing boats take larger engines and provide many of the features of convenience that not long ago was exclusive to molded fiberglass bass fishing boats.

Most of the earlier aluminum bass fishing boats were jon boat hulls with built-in compartments. Now the hulls of aluminum bass fishing boats offer greater variations in hull design, which permit smoother rides in rough water and overall performance than earlier models. Even with this engineering advance, you still do not have the capability to do with aluminum bass fishing boats that you can do with the use of molds to create fiberglass bass fishing boats.

The choice of aluminum bass fishing boats often comes down to an economic issue. You can often appear to get more bass fishing boat for the dollar with aluminum bass fishing boats. Another advantage to aluminum bass fishing boats is that people with smaller towing vehicles often choose lighter aluminum bass fishing boats over the equivalent length fiberglass bass fishing boats simply because they are lighter and thus easier pull.

Fiberglass bass fishing boats continue to offer new technologies in hull design and construction materials. The one issue that may be a point worth considering when buying fiberglass bass fishing boats, particularly larger boats with larger motors, is how hard is it to control the fiberglass bass fishing boats at speeds above 60 miles per hour.

There are those who do not want to go faster than 60, but those who do should test drive any fiberglass bass fishing boats they may want to buy to assess the potential for achieving such speeds. A test drive will show you whether the fiberglass bass fishing boat holds the water or if you have to constantly fight the steering system to avoid "chime walking."

The continual rise in the cost of bass fishing boats has caused considerable differences in those bass fishing boats that come equipped with all the bells and whistles versus similar but less expensive bass fishing boats. Less expensive bass fishing boats may not have all the radar, depth finders and various cosmetic niceties, but they will still do a good job for less cost.
